Serena Barra (Cranford, N.J.) made 10 saves as Caldwell women's lacrosse defeated Felician, 17-11, in a CACC matchup at Essex Valley Field on Sunday.
The Cougars (2-7, 1-6 CACC) jumped out to an early lead, breaking a 1-1 tie with four straight to end the first quarter. Five different players put the ball in the net in that period, with Marzooq tallying the first, four minutes into the game, and sophomore midfielder
Megan Molinelli (East Windsor, N.J.) capping the period with a marker with 0:12 left.
After Felician (2-9, 1-5) got to within 5-2, Marzooq and Korzevinski scored in the final 5:24 to give CU a 7-2 advantage at the half.
Then following a 4-1 rally by the Golden Falcons early in the third, freshman midfielder
Tiana Cipot (No. Brunswick, N..J.) and Marzooq pushed the CU lead back to five with back-to-back goals.
Then to end the third and start the fourth, Korzevinski and Cipot, who finished with three goals and an assist, re-established a five-goal edge at 13-8 and the Cougars completed the victory.
Marzooq, a Felician graduate who transferred to Caldwell as a graduate student this year, also caused a team-best three turnovers for the Cougars.
Caldwell next hosts Chestnut Hill on Wednesday on Senior Day at Essex Valley Field, beginning at 4 p.m.
