Staudte Hits 100 Point Mark, Mantineo Wins First as Men's Lacrosse Tops Holy Family

Seven Points for Staudte, Six Goals for Tarnowski, Glatfelter Nets Five

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior attackman Jason Staudte (Sound Beach, N.Y.) had two goals and five assists, passing the 100 career points mark, and freshman attack Owen Tarnowski (Morristown, N.J) scored six goals and added an assist as Caldwell men's lacrosse won its CACC opener, 18-8, over Holy Family (1-7, 0-1 CACC) at Essex Valley Field.

The victory marked the first for new Caldwell Head Coach Blase Mantineo, who served as assistant coach last year.

Caldwell took control in the second after a tight first quarter that saw the team split six goals. The Cougars turned it on with six straight, two by Tarnowski and one each by soph attack Gavin Starr (Montgomery, N.Y.), James McCarthy (Middletown, N.J.), Staudte and sophomore midfielder Zakkery Glatfelter (New Oxford, Pa.), who found the back of the net a career-high five times.

Senior goalkeeper Shane Murphy (Middletown, N.J.) made five saves in the first three quarters and freshman Ethan Shearer (New Oxford, Pa.) played the final 15 minutes for Caldwell (1-3, 1-0).

Senior midfielder Jayden Paladino (Hawthorne, N.J.) and senior MF Peter  Johnson (Cedar Grove,  N.J.) each posted a goal and two assists and freshman faceoff specialist Valentine Soltys (Westmont, N.J.) had his best day in the circle, winning 17 of 27 and adding an assist on a second-quarter Tarnowski goal.

The Cougars next visit Georgian Court on Saturday at 11 a.m. in CACC action.
