Coogan, Lewis Lead Comeback As Women's Basketball Tops Saint Michael's

DeMauro Free Throws with 2:00 left, Lewis Baskets Down the Stretch Propel Cougars

COLCHESTER, Vt. -- Sophomore guard Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) had 20 points, including a basket and two free throws in the final two minutes, and junior forward Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) added 20 points and a team-best nine rebounds as Caldwell women's basketball rallied to beat Saint Michael's at Ross Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (6-5) trailed, 60-54, with 3:03 left before a layup by graduate forward Sophia DeMauro (New York) and a three by Lewis pulled the visitors to within 60-59 with 2:25 to play. Then after a defensive stand, DeMauro hit two free throws with 2:01 left to put the Cougars ahead.

DeMauro then recorded her fourth steal of the game, and Lewis converted a layup for a 63-60 edge with 1:23 left. Two possessions later, Lewis hit two free throws with 0:22 left to compete the 11-0 Caldwell run, and after a SMC basket, DeMauro added a late free throw for the final margin.

Junior guard Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) had eight points while DeMauro and sophomore guard Neysa Aguilar had seven apiece. DeMauro added four assists and four steals for the Cougars, while freshman guard Shayne Eldridge (Wall, N.J.) also contributed four helpers.

Caldwell now breaks for the holidays, returning to action on January 4 vs. Staten Island at the Newman Center.
