CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore guard
Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) tallied team-bests of 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals and junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) and sophomore guard
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) had 13 apiece as Caldwell Women's Basketball took a late lead on Southern Connecticut before a late push gave the Owls a 65-58 triumph at the Newman Center in a non-league matchup on Saturday afternoon.
SCSU (8-2), ranked fourth in the East Region in the latest CSC media poll, led by as many as 15 midway through the first half before the Cougars closed to within eight by halftime at 30-22. The Owls re-established a double-digit advantage early in the third, but the feisty Cougars rallied in the fourth, turning a 55-46 deficit with 5:31 left in to a one-point lead at 58-57 on a nothing-but-net three pointer by junior guard
Marissa Sorvillo (Charlotte, N.C.), seeing her first extended action of the season, with 1:09 left.
But SCSU would go on to score the final eight points of the game, making six straight free throws to seal the win.
Sophomore guard
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) had eight points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists for Caldwell (4-5).
The Cougars next visit Queens on Wednesday and Saint Michael's next Saturday heading into the holidays.
