CALDWELL, N.J. -- The sophomore guard duo of
Isaiah Philbert (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Jaiden Williams (New York, N.Y.) led the Cougars in scoring with 12 and 11 points respectively, as Men's Basketball (8-2) held off the Queens College Knights (3-7) 61-58 at the Newman Center.
Junior forward
DeAngelo Horn (Castle Rock, Colo.) secured a season-high 13 rebounds on the night and finished a point shy of his second consecutive double-double.
Caldwell dominated the first half, building multiple 10 point leads and limiting Queens College to just 21 points.
The Cougars were up by 14 points (47-33) and (49-35) twice early in the second half at the 14:31 and 13:46 minute marks.
It looked like CU had separated themselves from Queens College, but the Knights were not about to give up that easily.
Queens took the lead (55-54) for a brief moment at the 4:00 mark.
Caldwell thwarted Queens College's comeback attempt with a big 3 from
Jaiden Williams in a tie game (56-56) and two huge free throws from senior point guard
Mark Heber (Paterson, N.J.) to help put the Cougars up 3 (61-58) at the 00:18 second mark.
CU will host the West Chester University of Pen nsylvania Golden Rams who are on a seven game winning streak on Saturday at 1 PM.
