Women's Soccer Erupts In Second Half, Advances To CACC Finals

Pinzon, Willis, Cardenas each tally goals within four minutes to Defeat Dominican; Gaminara Records Seventh Clean Sheet

CALDWELL, N.J.  --  The second-seeded Caldwell Cougars' offense exploded for three straight goals in a span of four minutes to start the second half, defeating the sixth-seeded Dominican Lady Chargers 3-0 at Caldwell Athletics Field.

Freshman forward Ana Maria Pinzon (Medellin, Colombia), senior forward Kayla Willis (Union, N.J.), and junior forward Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.) scored goals for Caldwell, all in a four-minute span.

Pinzon took a pass from Cardenas after freshman defender Ayla Fraser (Passaic, N.J.) crossed it in. Pinzon scored her second goal of the season.

Willis booted it in from the goal mouth after CACC Player of the Year, junior forward Taina Gervais (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) evaded the keeper and passed it. Willis found the back of the net for the fourth time.

Cardenas capped off the Cougars' furious rally with a header off a corner kick from graduate student defender Megan Feehan (Point Pleasant, N.J.). Cardenas buried her sixth goal this year.

Fraser, Cardenas, Gervais, and Feehan all earned assists.

CU dominated Dominican with a wide 27-11 total shot advantage, including firing eight more shots on goal than the Chargers. Caldwell also had five more corner kick chances.

Junior goalkeeper Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made five saves and recorded her seventh shutout this season.

Caldwell (12-4-2) will take on the No. 1 Jefferson Rams, who defeated the No. 4 Georgian Court Lions, in the finals at Wilmington University on Sunday at 1 PM. The Cougars have been to the CACC Women's Soccer Championships three times before, winning titles in 2013, 2016 and 2018.
