NEWARK, Del. -- Freshman midfielder
Haakon Rake (Lommedalen, Norway) headed in a nifty cross from graduate midfielder
Alex Spencer in the 52nd minute and sophomore goalkeeper
Justin Talbot (Moorestown, N.J.) made seven saves as Caldwell men's soccer earned a road CACC point with a 1-1 draw at Wilmington at the WU Athletics Complex.
Scoreless at halftime, the teams had some early opportunities after the intermission. The Wildcats missed a PK just a few minutes before Rake's goal gave CU the lead. Then the Cougars had a PK opportunity that led to two more point-blank chances that couldn't find the bottom of the net to double the CU lead.
That miss came back to haunt CU in the 80th minute as the hosts (2-6-2, 2-2-1 CACC) got the equalizer. Both teams had scoring opportunities in the final 10 minutes but had narrow misses for the final score.
WU had 11 shots to 10 by the Cougars (4-2-2, 3-0-1) and seven corner kick chances to six by CU in a very evenly matched contest.
Caldwell next visits Dominican on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a CACC matchup in Orangeburg, N.Y.
