Army Uses Strong Second Half to Down Sprint Football

Smith, McDougald Score Rushing TDs in Defeat

WEST POINT, N.Y. — A sturdy second half by host Army West Point broke open a close contest as the Black Knights defeated Caldwell, 56-12, in CSFL sprint football action at Shea Stadium on the USMA campus.

The Cougars fought hard early, trailing just 21-12 in the second quarter on the strength of a 15-yard run by sophomore RB Curtis McDougald (Elizabeth, N.J.) and a 75-yard scamper by freshman QB Josh Smith (Parsippany, N.J.). A short TD run by Army (4-0) in the final moments of the first half gave the Black Knights a 28-12 halftime edge.

Smith rushed for 144 yards and completed 15 of 29 passes for 135 yards. Junior WR Darius Harrison (Plainfield, N.J.) had a team-best six catches.

The Cougars (2-2) host CSFL South foe, unbeaten Pennsylvania next Saturday at 4 p.m. at Bonnel Field.
