CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior wide receiver
Arjun Petgrave (Cranford, N.J.) caught three touchdowns including the game-winner with seven seconds left, as Caldwell Sprint Football (2-1) defeated the Mansfield Mountaineers (1-3) 28-21 at Bonnell Field. Petgrave had five catches for 106 yards and a long touchdown reception of 57 yards.
Freshman quarterback
Josh Smith (Parsippany, N.J.) had a great game, throwing for 172 yards and three TDs and also rushing for 50 yards.
Senior defensive back
Kyle Readus (Paterson, N.J.) came up with a huge play at the end of the first half, recovering and returning a fumble for 89 yards. The Cougars would score a play later on a 11 yard touchdown pass from Smith to Petgrave for a 14-0 halftime advantage.
After Mansfield came back to tie the score at 21 with 3:04 left in the game, Smith engineered a 10 play, 75 yard drive that culminated in a miraculous 25 yard touchdown pass to Petgrave in the corner of the endzone on fourth and one to secure the victory.
Caldwell will face Army West Point in West Point, N.Y. on Friday at 7 PM.
