Jahnel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) had a brilliant day with 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Cougars used a 27-point third quarter to break open a close game and defeat Wilmington, 79-62, in a CACC contest at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Cougars led by just one at 35-34 at halftime, but after the Wildcats (1-13, 0-4 CACC) scored the first bucket of the quarter, a 17-5 run, capped by layups by DeMauro and sophomore guard
Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) gave the Cougars a 12-point edge. Two straight layups by Coogan followed by a three by freshman
Brianna Carey (Clifton Park, N.Y.) with 1:04 left in the third extended CU's lead to 62-44 before settling for a 17-point lead entering the final 10:00.
DeMauro made 12 of 21 field goals en route to the career day, contributing five rebounds and three assists as well. Coogan's 14 points and game-high 14 rebounds were supplemented by a 10-and-10 effort from Bray. The Cougars also got 11 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals from freshman
