CALDWELL, N.J. – Freshman Jahnel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) led the Cougars with a game high of 25 points as Caldwell women's basketball fell, 68-64, to Molloy at the Newman Center in a non-conference game on Friday night.
The Cougars (4-8) led, 34-27 at half, extending to an 11-point advantage on a run capped by a three pointer by Lewis for a 43-32 edge with 5:40 left in the third quarter. But the Lions (6-8) would close the period strong to take a 49-45 lead into the fourth.
Caldwell trailed, 62-50, with five minutes left before a furious rally which included two free throws and a jump shot by Lewis made it a four point game with under a minute to go. But the visitors made three free throws down the stretch to hold off the Cougars' rally.
As part of her day, Lewis went 7-11 from the free throw line, adding four assists and three rebounds. Soph Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) contributed 16 points and eight rebounds.
Graduate Sophia DeMauro (New York) had 11 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) and soph Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) each grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
The Cougars are set to return to CACC play, with a matchup at Jefferson lined up for Sunday at 2 p.m.
