Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds as Caldwell women's basketball fell at Mercy, 78-68, on Wednesday in a non-league contest at Victory Gym.
The Cougars led, 21-17, with 7:00 left in the first half on a pair of free throws by Coogan, capping a 7-2 run that also included a jumper by Coogan, layup by sophomore
Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) and free throw by freshman
Shauntia Alexander (North Plainfield, N.J.) , who had a season-best six points.
Caldwell (3-7) trailed by double digits early in the fourth, twice getting as close as seven points, the second time on a run which included baskets by Lewis, Coogan and Bray, but could get no closer as Mercy (8-5) made its last eight free throws to secure the win.
Freshman
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) was her customary terror on defense, nabbing six steals and eight rebounds while contributing two assists and three points.
The Cougars step back into CACC play, visiting Wilmington on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their next action.
