CALDWELL, N.J. -- Freshman guard
Jahnel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) had 20 points, freshman guard
Brianna Carey (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had 15 points and seven rebounds and sophomore guard
Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) had 12, but a late Caldwell women's basketball lead wasn't enough in a 69-64 CACC loss to Dominican on Monday at the Newman Center.
The Cougars trailed, 35-30 at halftime, an after the Lady Chargers (7-10, 4-4 CACC) built a 10-point lead midway through the third, the Cougars stormed back, eventually tying the game at 44 on a three pointer by Carey and layups by graduate
Sophia DeMauro (New York), freshman
Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Bray, then after DU retook the lead, the Cougars went ahead, 54-52 on a layup and two free throws by Lewis to take the edge into the fourth.
A traditional three-point play by Lewis gave Caldwell (4-13, 1-7) their then-largest lead at 55-50, and later a Bray layup made it 61-54 in favor of the Cougars with 6:23 left. But the Lady Chargers battled back, scoring seven straight to tie it again at 61. CU took its last lead, 64-61, with 2:48 left on a triple by Lewis, but DU scored the last eight points to secure the win.
Bray finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while Corbett had 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals, and DeMauro collected 13 rebounds.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday at Newman Center vs. Felician.
