WATERBURY, Conn. -- Freshman
Jahnel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) scored 26 points and soph
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) added 22, both matching their respective career highs, as Caldwell women's basketball fell at CACC foe Post, 93-80, at Drubner Center.
Freshman
Brianna Carey (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had her high-water mark in points as well, dropping in 15, including three of six from three point range.
The Cougars used a big 31-point third quarter to narrow a 19-point deficit down to eight, a layup by Carey and top-of-the-key three pointer by Coogan capping the run. But Post would re-establish a double-digit lead entering the fourth, and while the Cougars (4-10, 1-4 CACC) made one more push, a Lewis layup and sophomore
Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) trey narrowing their deficit to 87-76 with 2:53 left, the Eagles (9-6, 4-1) were able to hold off the charge and earn the win.
Lewis made nine of 13 from the floor, including her only three point attempt, and Coogan was effective from the line, hitting on 15 of 17, adding five rebounds. Bray was strong defensively for the Cougars, garnering team-bests of four steals and six rebounds.
The Cougars, who have played 10 of their first 14 games away from home, return to the Newman Center Saturday against Chestnut Hill for the first of six straight CACC contests. Game time is 1 p.m.
