CALDWELL, N.J.. - Senior forward
Israel Dos Santos Neto (Salvador Bahia, Brazil) dribbled through a pair of Bloomsburg defenders and slipped a shot past the keeper in the 83rd minute of play, breaking a 2-2 tie and completing Caldwell men's soccer's comeback victory, 3-2, on a stiflingly hot and humid pitch at Caldwell Athletic Fields.
The win moves Caldwell to 3-0 for the first time in the Division II era, which began at CU in 2004.
After spotting the visiting Huskies (1-1-1) two goals in the first 29 minutes, the Cougars struck back quickly on goals by graduate forward
Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) assisted by freshman forward
Melvin Guanga (Haverstraw, N.Y) in the 34th minute and Dos Santos Neto in the 44th, assisted by freshman forward Â
Aimar Carter (Clifton, N.J.) to go into halftime level.
Both teams had opportunities to get the tiebreaker, but it wasn't until Dos Santos Neto controlled a throw-in by freshman defender
Yigit Kilic (Istanbul, Turkey), dribbled into the penalty area and lifted a right-footer from about five yards away into the net for the eventual game-winner.
Junior goalkeeper
Dylan Valencia (Madrid, España), making his first start of the season, recorded nine saves in the triumph.
The Cougars next host Seton Hill on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. at Caldwell Athletic Field.
