CALDWELL, N.J.. - Graduate forward
Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) scored two second-half goals and assisted on another as the Caldwell men's soccer team moved to 4-0 with a 5-1 triumph over Seton Hill at Kiwanis Oval. The Cougars broke open a tight game which they led just 1-0 at the half with four straight markers before a late Griffins goal in the final two minutes provided the final margin.
Sophomore midfielder Ingebrigt Braeden (Trondheim, Norway) got the Cougars on the board in the 13th minute, taking a nifty feed from senior forward
Israel Dos Santos Neto (Salvador Bahia, Brazil), and burying it in the back of the net for the 1-0 CU lead.Â
That score would remain through halftime, when the Cougars turned up the intensity and scored three goals in an 18-minute span to put the match out of reach. Senior midfielder
Alex Spencer (St. Andrew, Jamaica) converted a pass from Vieira for the 2-0 lead in the 51st minute before freshman forward
Aimar Carter (Clifton, N.J.) beat several defenders, banging in a drive from about 12 yards out off a wall of Griffins and into the right side of the goal for the 3-0 Caldwell advantage in the 61st minute.
Vieira then scored unassisted tallies in the 69th and 78th minutes as the Cougars won their fourth straight to start the season for what is believed to be the first time.
CU was also ranked #4 in the East Region in the United Soccer Coaches poll on Tuesday.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kevin Sabadin (Mantena, Brazil) made seven saves in recording his third win.
The Cougars open their CACC season at Bloomfield next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
