Turner Rushes for 109 Yards But Cougars Fall to STAC, 25-18

Orsini, Turner Score touchdowns but Spartans Rally to win

W. CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore RB Devon Turner (Bergenfield N.J.) rushed for a game-high 109 yards and a touchdown and senior quarterback Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.) threw for 148 yards but Caldwell sprint football fell, 25-18, to STAC (1-1) in CSFL action at Bonnel Field.

The Cougars took a 7-0 lead on an option pass from sophomore WR Donovan Swasey (Clifton, N.J.) to junior wideout Nadir Orsini (Jersey City, N.J.) on the Cougars' first possession of the game.

Caldwell (2-1) extended its lead to 10-0 on a 27 yard field goal by junior George Escobar (Belleville, N.J.) with under 3:00 left in the first.

STAC battled back with two touchdowns to lead, 15-10, at halftime, before a seven-yard Turner TD scamper and ensuing two-point conversion pass from DeMaio to junior TE Angelo Drake (Manville, N.J.) put the Cougars back on top, 18-15, midway through the third quarter, capping a 10-play drive.

The Spartans, however, tied the game on a 30 yard field goal then scored what proved to be the game winning touchdown on a pass into the corner of the end zone with 9:27 left in the fourth. Caldwell could not score on two ensuing drives to suffer its first defeat of the season.

Senior lineman Darien Davis (Paterson, N.J.) had a team-best nine tackles, including two for loss, while junior corner Amajuwan Murray (Rahway, N.J.), freshman linebacker Lazarus Lisojo (Woodbridge, N.J.) and junior DB Michael Bonsu (Atlanta) each had six.

Caldwell visits Mansfield on Saturday at 4 p.m. in its next action.
