CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior RF Noah Putney (Glassboro, N.J.) crushed a third-inning grand slam as part of a 2-for-4, five RBI day, leading Caldwell baseball (14-23) to a non-league victory over Pace (24-15) at Kiwanis Oval. Putney's blast capped a five-run frame that gave the Cougars a 7-0 lead and four CU pitchers scattered eight hits to secure the win.

Putney had doubled in the second, plating junior 1B Zach Saunders (Adelphi, Md.) with the first Cougars run, then scored on a double by freshman DH Christopher Bayo (Miami). After Saunders' walk forced in the third run, Putney followed with the decisive blow.

Putney, Bayo, sophomore LF Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y) and freshman shortstop Malik Little (Bergenfield, N.J.) had two hits each in the Cougars' 11-hit attack.

Senior righthander Connor Woods (Bethlehem, N.J.) (2-0) allowed one run over four innings to get the win.

The Cougars visit Bloomfield in a doubleheader on Saturday, then take on Alliance in a twin bill at Kiwanis Oval beginning at noon before closing the regular season with a non-conference game with Queens on Tuesday at Kiwanis Oval.
