Magliacano's Tiebreaking Hit, Daly's Relief Lead Softball Past Bloomfield

Tavaska's three hits, two RBI also key to victory in makeup contest

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. -- Freshman center fielder Olivia Magliacano (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) blasted a tie-breaking, two-run double to cap a four-run third inning and graduate Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) tossed three hitless innings of relief as Caldwell softball (29-11, 19-3) CACC) surged past Bloomfield, 6-3, at Clark's Pond South. Soph SS Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J) also had three hits and two RBI in Caldwell's sixth straight win.

Trailing, 3-1, Tavaska's double hopped over the right center field fence to score freshman Cameron Fehsal (Succasunna, N.J.), running for senior 1B Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who had doubled. Freshman 3B Alexa Lee (Blackwood, N.J.) followed with a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game before Magliacano's shot over the center fielder's head plated Tavaska and senior left fielder Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) with the go-ahead runs.

Daly made it stand up, entering in the fifth inning in relief of freshman righthander Olivia Kennedy (Chenango Forks, N.Y.), who upped her record to 7-2 with the victory. Daly faced the minimum nine batters over the final three innings, allowing no hits or walks for her second save.

The Cougars added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on doubles by Rodriguez and Tavaska for the final margin.

The contest was a single game makeup of an earlier rainout in which only one game had been completed.

The Cougars step out of CACC play to face Pace on Saturday at noon at Caldwell Athletic fields, beginning a string of 10 straight home games to end the regular season. Caldwell will also host a first-round CACC Tournament contest on April 29.
