CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior 2B
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) went 4-for-4, hitting for the cycle as the Cougars completed a sweep of non-league foe St. Thomas Aquinas (16-13) at Caldwell Athletic Field, 8-4. Grundhauser's sixth-inning triple over the head of the center fielder completed the feat after she had singled in the first, hit a solo home run in the second and doubled in the fourth. It was part of a 14-hit Cougars attack that made a winner of Freshman righthander
Olivia Kennedy (Chenango Forks, N.Y.), who allowed three hits and two runs in six-plus innings, relieved in the seventh by graduate righthander
Madison Burns (East Greenbush, N.Y.).
In the opener, the Cougars (23-10) rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 4-2, scoring two in the fifth on an RBI triple by sophomore RF
Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) followed by an RBI single by soph DP
Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.), then two more in the sixth on an RBI triple by freshman catcher
Delaney Ridgell (Mt. Airy, Md.) and pinch hit run scoring single by sophomore
Brooke Martin (Oakland, Maine) to tie the game.
Ridgell then delivered a walk-off, RBI double down the left field line, scoring freshman 3B
Alexa Lee (Blackwood, N.J.) who had hit a two-out double, for the 5-4 win. Burns (7-2) was credited with the win with two frames in relief of graduate
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.). Ridgell had three hits in the game and four other Cougars had two knocks apiece.
In addition to Grundhauser's heroics, Lee had three hits and three other Cougars recorded two each in the nightcap.
Saturday's scheduled doubleheader vs. Georgian Court has been postponed due to a poor weather forecast, so the next scheduled games for Caldwell are at Southern Connecticut on Sunday in New Haven.
