BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Freshman Stephen Young Jr. (Middlesex, N.J.) delivered an RBI-double, scoring classmate Christopher Bayo (Miami) all the way from first with the tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth, lifting Caldwell baseball (9-19, 3-10 CACC) to a 3-2 win at Bridgeport in the opening game of a split three-game set vs. the Purple Knights. Young Jr.'s heroics made a winner of freshman righty John Rigas (Lincoln Park, N.J.), who hurled eight solid innings, scattering eight hits and permitting no earned runs. Graduate RHP Jerry Gamone (Union, N.J.) pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

The Cougars got on the board in the fourth on a run-scoring hit by freshman 2B Malik Little (Bergenfield, N.J.). Then, trailing 2-1 entering the sixth, Caldwell rallied on a base-loaded walk to Bayo, scoring junior 1B Zach Saunders (Adelphi, Md.), who was 2-for-2 with two walks in the victory.

Caldwell and Bridgeport (7-26, 3-10) resume the three-game set on Saturday at Kiwanis Oval with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
