WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's lacrosse senior
Owen Healey (Washington, N.J.) tallied eight goals and added an assist as the Cougars notched an 18-8 victory over the University of the District of Columbia in their 2023 season opener.
The Cougars open the season at 1-0, while the Firebirds fall to 0-1.
Caldwell rolled out to a 10-2 halftime lead as Healey and junior
Jason Staudte (Sound Beach, N.J.) each netted three goals each over the first two quarters. Freshman
Gavin Starr (Montgomery, N.Y.) netted his first two collegiate goals, while senior
Garret Ciccia (Rockaway, N.J.) and junior
Jayden Paladino (Hawthorne, N.J.) scored one each.
Healey continued to pace the Cougar offense in the second half, tallying five goals, while Starr netted a pair of goals. Sophomore
Trevor Spinelli (Verona, N.J.) got his first goal in a Caldwell uniform to cap the scoring for the Cougars.
Healey finished the day with nine points on eight goals and one assist, while Staudte added six points on three goals and three assists. Starr netted four goals, while Paladino totaled on goal and three assists.
Senior
Tim Livingston (Holtsville, N.Y.) played 41 minutes, recording 11 saves and allowing only three goals in the victory.
The Cougars travel to American International College for a non-conference contest on Saturday, February 25 at 1 pm.
