CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior
Casey O'Shaughnessy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 26 points but it wasn't enough as the Cougars fell short to Post University 66-64 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 10-15 on the season and 6-10 in the CACC, while the Eagles improve to 17-9 and 12-4 in conference play.
Post led for most of the first half but the Cougars kept it close throughout. The Eagles led by as much as eight points early in the second quarter but Caldwell rallied back. O'Shaughnessy drained three free throws in the waning seconds to help the Cougars cut the score to 32-28 at halftime.
The Eagles scored a free throw on their first possession of the second half to lead 33-28. The Cougars roared back with a 23-7 run as O'Shaughnessy drained a pair from downtown, totaling eight points. Senior
Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) added four points, while freshman
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) netted four points. Coogan capped the run at the 1:47 mark of the third quarter to give Caldwell a 50-40 lead.
Caldwell maintained their lead for most of the fourth quarter but Post battled back down the stretch. The Eagles connected on three triples over the final three minutes and converted a go-ahead three-point play in the final seconds to complete comeback.
O'Shaughnessy led the way with 26 points, five rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals. Coogan finished with 11 points and five boards, while Morrison added eight points and five rebounds.
The Cougars travel to Alliance University for a CACC contest on Saturday, February 18 at 1 pm.
