BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Freshman Jahnel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) and graduate forward Sophia DeMauro (New York) had 16 points apiece and sophomore Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) added 14 and grabbed eight rebounds as Caldwell women's basketball fell at Bridgeport, 60-57, in a CACC game at Harvey Hubble Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Cougars (3-6, 0-2 CACC) took the lead at 52-50 with 7:00 left in the fourth quarter on a three by Coogan. But a 10-1 run over the next 4:30 put the hosts up to stay as a late rally which included two free throws by Coogan and a layup by freshman Brooke Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) came up just short as Bridgeport (3-9, 2-0 CACC) held on for the victory.
Lewis added two assists and three steals, while DeMauro, Corbett and sophomore Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) grabbed six rebounds apiece.
Caldwell steps out of league play on Wednesday, visiting Mercy for a 5 p.m. start.
