Wyette Schubert-Brown (Chatsworth, N.J.) had a team-best nine kills and added 10 digs, senior setter
Reese Sherwood (Salem, Ore.) posted 15 assists, 11 digs, seven kills and three aces and sophomore libero
Torrien Jones (Camp Springs, Md.) had a team-high 14 digs as Caldwell Volleyball fell to St. Thomas Aquinas, 3-0, in non-league action at the Newman Center.
Trailing, 18-12, in the first, the Cougars battled back on the right arm of Sherwood, winning five straight points to nudge back into it at 18-17. But with the score 19-18, STAC (5-14) rolled off six of the final seven points for the 25-19 set.
The Cougars (3-21) used an 8-0 run, seven coming on the serve of junior RS
Natalie Piper (Long Beach, Calif.), to lead, 17-13 in the second. But again the Spartans rallied, eventually turning a 19-17 CU edge into a 25-20 set win with a fast finish.
The Cougars weren't done battling, however, coming back from a 15-10 deficit to tie it at 15, three kills by Sherwood keying the rally. They trailed by just a point, 22-21, when STAC scored the final three points to seal the victory.
On Wednesday, the Cougars will celebrate Senior Night at the Newman Center prior to the season-ending matchup with Felician. Caldwell will honor Sherwood,
Gabriella Maffei (Oak Ridge, N.J.),
Amanda Schiltz (Durham, N.C.) and
Gabriella Hernandez (Roselle, N.J.). Fans are encouraged to get there early for the ceremony.
