CALDWELL, N.J.--A festive senior night at Newman Center honoring four Cougars Volleyball standouts nearly turned into an upset of the #2 team in the CACC North, but in the end, Felician came out on top of an exciting five-set matchup, the final game of the season for the Cougars.
Seniors
Amanda Schiltz (Durham, N.C.) (12 kills, nine blocks),
Reese Sherwood (Salem, Ore.) (triple double with 10 kills, 14 assists and 10 digs),
Gabriella Maffei (Oak Ridge, N.J.) (three digs) and
Gabriella Hernandez (Roselle, N.J.) (three kills, two blocks) all contributed as Caldwell pushed Felician (13-14, 11-5 CACC) to the brink.
After the Golden Falcons won the first set, the Cougars stormed back to win the second decisively, 25-12, turning a 12-10 lead into a 19-10 advantage with seven straight points, keyed by two kills by Schiltz, one by Hernandez and one by freshman hitter
Andrea Enabosi (Piscataway, N.J.), then closed it out with a 7-1 run which included two kills by sophomore hitter
Wyette Schubert-Brown (Chatsworth, N.J.) and a set-ending block by Hernandez and Schiltz.
Felician took the third set in a close 25-22 battle, but the Cougars rallied to take the fourth, 26-24, eventually taking the set on consecutive kills by Sherwood assisted by soph setter
Jordan Mack (Yorba Linda, Calif.), who had a team-best 17 assists on the night.
Felician was able to outlast the Cougars, 15-11, to take the match.
Sophomore libero
