CALDWELL, N.J.--The seeds are set and both Caldwell soccer teams know their opponents and locations for the upcoming
CACC Women's and
Men's Soccer Championships beginning with quarterfinal play at home sites of the top four seeds in each tournament.
The women, under the direction of first-hear Caldwell head coach
Sammy Adjei earned the #3 seed with five wins and five draws in 11 CACC contests, including points in their last six games and two big wins last week to secure the home date vs. Georgian Court, a team they played to a 1-1 draw in Lakewood, N.J., last month.
The Cougars (7-3-5 overall, 5-1-5 CACC) are paced by graduate
Sarah Costanza (Morris Plains, N.J.), who is tied for second in the league with 10 goals and third with 22 points. Junior
Melissa Martinez (Elizabeth, N.J.) has five goals and three assists for 13 points and soph
Rosio Cardenas (Forked River, N.J.) has three goals and an assist.Â
The Caldwell defense, which has allowed the fewest goals (14) of any team in the league, is led by soph GK
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas), whose .848 save percentage leads the league, senior
Isabella Tabja (Caracas, Venezuela), senior
Megan Feehan (Point Pleasant, N.J.), freshman Lea-Sophie Mashing (Salzburg, Austria) and junior
Isabella Vitella (Roseland, N.J.).
The Caldwell men (9-5-1, 5-5-1 CACC) earned the #6 seed and have been near the top of the league all year, ending up sixth in a tight race that has just a few points separating the #2-6 seeds. They will take on #3 Bridgeport on Monday at 1 p.m. in Bridgeport, Conn. The nine wins are the most for the program since 2014 and second most since 2008.
Offensively, second-year Head Coach
Evan Marques' squad is led by the prolific trio of graduate
Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) and senior
Israel Dos Santos Neto (Salvador Bahia, Brazil), both tied for second in the CACC with 10 goals, and senior
Murilo DeOliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), whose 13 assists top the conference and rank third nationally.
Quarterfinal winners will meet in Bridgeport in Friday's (Nov. 10) semifinals (women 10 a.m./1 p.m., men 4 p.m./7 p.m.), with the Final set for Sunday, Nov. 12 (women 11 a.m., men 2 p.m.).
