Jahnel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) had a game-high 17 points in her collegiate debut and sophomores
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) and
Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) also hit double figures with 15 and 10 points apiece, leading Caldwell women's basketball to a season-opening, 75-70 win over Adelphia at the Pace University Tournament at Ann and Alfred Goldstein Health, Fitness & Recreation Center on Friday night.
The game was an exciting back-and-forth affairs, with 14 ties and 21 lead changes as the Cougars took the lead for good on Lewis's jumper with 6:05 left, followed by a layup and jumper by the rookie, giving Caldwell a 66-61 edge with 5:14 to play. Adelphi would close to within three twice in the final two minutes, but a pair of free throws by Lewis with 0:41 left and two more by Coogan with 0:02 left sealed the win.

Alisa Blalock (Uniondale, N.Y.) and freshman
Brianna Carey (Clifton Park, N.Y.), who tossed in nine points each, graduate
Sophia DeMauro (New York), who had six points, a team-best five assists, and matched freshman
Brooke Corbett's (Staten Island, N.Y.) team-high seven rebounds.
Caldwell outrebounded Adelphi (0-1), 42-33, and made eight three pointers on the night.
The Cougars are in action in the second game of the tournament on Saturday, taking on host Pace at 5 p.m.
