BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior
Casey O'Shaughnessy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) powered the Cougars past Bloomfield College 61-48 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improves to 8-9 on the season and 4-5 in the CACC, while the Bears drop to 1-16 and 0-8 in conference play.
Senior
Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) drained an early triple as Bloomfield built a 13-9 lead late in the opening quarter. Coogan scored in the paint, while freshman
Amyah Bray (Manchester, N.J.) added a bucket to pull even at 13.
Bloomfield answered to pull ahead 17-14 early in the second quarter. The Cougars rallied back with a 16-1 run to close out the first half. Brown netted four points, while O'Shaughnessy led the way with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to put Caldwell in front 30-18 at halftime.
The Cougars opened the second half on a 10-2 run to solidify their lead. Senior
Jessica Wagoner (Clifton Park, N.Y.) netted four points in the run, while graduate
Saundra Cleckley (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) drained a pair of free throws to cap the run at the 5:19 mark to put the Cougars ahead 40-20, which proved to be their largest lead of the game. Caldwell maintained their lead into the final quarter.
O'Shaughnessy led the way with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Coogan contributed 16 points, five boards and two blocks. Brown netted nine points and five rebounds, while Cleckley tallied 11 rebounds and five steals.
The Cougars return home on Saturday, January 21 as they host Wilmington University for a CACC contest at 1 pm.
