JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Caldwell University women's volleyball graduate
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) posted a season-high 31 digs as the Cougars off Alliance University for a thrilling 3-2 victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while Alliance University falls to 1-11 and 0-3 in conference play.
Caldwell won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21 to take the match lead. Alliance University rallied back to even the match with a third set win 25-16 and fourth set 25-23 to force a deciding set. The teams traded leads in the final set with the Cougars eventually outlasting the home team 19-17.
Senior
Mary Grace Hartmann (Cutchogue, N.Y.) led the way with 14 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, while freshman
Wyette Schubert-Brown (Chatsworth, N.J.) added 14 kills, three total blocks (one solo) and eight digs.
Junior
Reese Sherwood (Salem Ore.) posted her fourth triple-double of the season with 13 kills, 24 assists and 26 digs. Freshman
Gabriella Maffei (Oak Ridge, N.J.) recorded 11 kills and five digs. Graduate
Shayna Saltzman (Pine Beach, N.J.) tallied 22 assists and 17 digs. Stormer finished with a match-high 31 digs, while sophomore
Karin Ojeda (Toms River, N.J.) netted 20 digs and two aces.
Caldwell travels to Queens College for a non-conference match on Sunday, September 18 at noon.
