SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Caldwell University women's soccer senior Taylor Gutierrez (Tucson, Ariz.) netted a first-half goal as the Cougars edged Converse University 1-0 in their 2022 season opener.
 
The Cougars open their season at 1-0-0, while the Valkyries drop to 0-1-0.
 
Caldwell got on the board in the 18th minute as Gutierrez netted the lone goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Alexa Peto (Toms River, N.J.).
 
The Cougars defense limited Converse to three shots in the game, while Caldwell posted 13 shots in the win.
 
Freshman Ariana Gaminara (North Las Vegas, Nev.) stopped all three shots in 90 minutes in net to earn her first collegiate victory.  
 
The Cougars travel to Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, August 27 at 1 pm.
