CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College. The Griffins took the opener 6-0, while the Cougars won the nightcap 3-1.

The Cougars move to 7-18 overall and 2-11 in the CACC, while the Griffins stand at 15-16 and 6-6 in conference play.

Caldwell was held to five hits in the opener as freshman
Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) and freshman
Santo Anzalone (Middle Village, N.Y.) each went 2-for-3 in the game.

In the nightcap, the Griffins scored their lone run in the second inning. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning as freshman
Anthony Rossomando (Hillsdale, N.J.) blasted a solo homerun to even the score at 1-1.

Caldwell took the lead in the fifth as sophomore
Zach Saunders (Adelphi, Md.) led off the inning with a walk. Saunders moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored the go-ahead run on a double by senor
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.). Senior
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) added an insurance run with a single to score Lehmann for a 3-1 lead.

Four pitchers combined to limit Chestnut Hill to two hits in the win. Sophomore
Nikko Matos (Roselle Park, N.J.) retired all three batters he faced in the fifth, registering two strikeouts to earn the win. Lehmann earned the save, tossing two scoreless and hitless innings to close out the game. Â
