CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Bloomfield College with the Cougars winning in walk-off fashion in game two. Bloomfield won the opener 7-4, while the Cougars took the nightcap 5-4.

The Cougars move to 8-19 overall and 3-12 in the CACC, while the Bears stand at 11-16 and 5-6 in conference play.

Caldwell took the early lead in game one as sophomore
Noah Putney (Glassboro, N.J.) blasted solo homerun in the second inning. The Bears rallied in the third as they scored three runs and added two runs in the fifth for a 5-1 lead.

The Cougars got a run back in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by junior
Michael Lazzaro (Toms River, N.J.). Putney singled in a run in the sixth to cut the score to 5-3.

Bloomfield added a run the seventh, while sophomore
Zach Saunders (Adelphi, Md.) connected on a solo homerun in their half of the seventh to cut the score to 6-4. The Bears tacked on a run in the ninth for the final run of the game.

In the nightcap, the Bears scored a run in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead. Caldwell answered in their half of the first as freshman
Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) hit a solo homerun to tie the game at 1-1. The Cougars added three more runs in the inning as Putney singled in a run, while senior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) drove in a run with a groundout for a 4-1 lead.

Bloomfield rallied back as they scored one run in the third and tied the game in the fifth with two runs.

In the seventh, senior
Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) and junior
Elias Negron (Virginia Beach, Va.) drew lead-off walks to get rally started. The runners moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Lombardi followed with a sacrifice fly to win the game and give the Cougars a split.

Freshman
Santo Anzalone (Middle Village, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 in the nightcap, while Putney went 3-for-7 with two RBI in the two games.

Senior
Jerry Gamone (Union, N.J.) tossed a scoreless seventh, allowing one hit to improve to 2-1 on the season
