CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Post University. The Eagles edged the Cougars in the opener 6-5, while Caldwell won the nightcap 9-1 in five innings.

The Cougars move to 15-6 overall and 5-1 in the CACC, while the Eagles stand at 10-12 and 4-6 in conference play.

In the opener, the teams traded runs in the third inning. The Eagles took the lead with two runs in the top of the inning. The Cougars answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning as freshman
Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) singled in two runs.

Post retook a 4-2 lead with two runs in the fifth inning. Caldwell battled back in the bottom of the inning as senior
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly. Junior
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) tied the game in the sixth with a solo homerun.

The Eagles jumped back in front with two runs in the top of the seventh. Caldwell got one run back in the bottom of the inning but their comeback fell short.

In the nightcap, Grundhauser doubled in the first run of the game in the first inning. Senior
Chloe VanGorder (Harveys Lake, Pa.) added a run scoring single in the inning for a 2-0 lead.

Post got one run back in the second but senior
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.) doubled in two runs for a 4-1 lead. Grundhauser added to the Caldwell lead with a run scoring single in the third, while VanGorder followed with a two-run homerun.

Caldwell ended the game in the fifth as freshman
Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.) singled in one run, while Rodriguez doubled in the final run of the game.

Senior
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) improved to 9-2 as she tossed a complete game two-hitter, allowing one run and striking out six.

The Cougars travel to Queens College for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 7 at 2:30 pm.
