FLUSHING, N.Y.- Caldwell University softball senior
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) tossed a three-hitter in a game one win as the Cougars swept a non-conference twin bill against Queens College. The Cougars took the opener 3-1 and won the nightcap 11-3.

The Cougars improve to 17-6 overall, while the Knights fall to 1-17.

In the opener, senior
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) singled in the first run of the game in the third inning. Caldwell added a second run in the inning, while senior
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) blasted a solo homerun in the fifth inning.

Culver improved to 7-1 as she tossed a complete game, three-hitter, allowing one run and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the game was scoreless through four innings of play. The teams matched runs in the fifth as Cooney singled in the first run of the game, while Caldwell added two runs for a 3-0 lead. Queens answered with three runs in their half of the inning to tie the score at 3-3.

The Cougars scored eight runs over the final two innings, including five in the sixth. Senior
Chloe VanGorder (Harveys Lake, Pa.) singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth, while junior
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) added a sacrifice fly. Cooney doubled in two runs, while freshman
Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) singled in a run. Grundhauser blasted a two-run homerun in the seventh for the final runs of the game.

Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) earned her first collegiate win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and struck out four.
