PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Caldwell University softball team split a twin bill with regionally ranked Pace University. Caldwell took the opener 5-1 in nine innings, while the Setters won the nightcap 6-2.
The Cougars move to 32-9 overall, while the Setters stand at 25-12.
In the opener, freshman
Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) doubled in senior
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) for the first run of the game in the fifth. Pace tied the score in the sixth and the game headed to extra innings.
Following a scoreless eighth, Caldwell broke through in the ninth as senior
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) singled to drive in the go-ahead run. The Cougars added three more runs as freshman
Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.) drove in two runs with a single, while junior
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) scored on an error.
Senior
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) went the distance, allowing one run on nine hits with 10 strikeouts to improve to 14-2.

Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) and Tavaska had run scoring singles in the first for a 2-0 lead.
The Setters took the lead with three runs in the second and added one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Senior
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) tossed four innings, allowing six runs (one earned) on 10 hits to fall to 15-4. Winters tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
The Cougars host Felician University for a conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26 at 2:30 pm.
