Lombardi Homers Twice, Drives in 10 Runs as Baseball Sweeps Nyack

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Caldwell University baseball freshman Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) homered in both games and drove in 10 runs as the Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack College. The Cougars took the opener 24-13 and completed the sweep with a 9-2 win in the nightcap.  
 
The Cougars improve to 14-21 overall and 9-13 in the CACC, while the Warriors drop to 0-24 and 0-20 in conference play.
 
In the opener, Lombardi went 4-for-7 with a career-high seven RBI with a three-run homerun in the eighth inning. He added a two-run triple in the fifth and a two-run single in the sixth. Senior Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) went 2-for-6 with four RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third, a two-run single in the sixth and a run scoring single in the eighth. Freshman Joseph Witt (North Arlington, N.J.) drove in four runs in the win, while senior Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) scored three runs and connected on a solo homerun in the third.
 
Junior Michael Deusch (Oceanport, N.J.) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and struck out three to earn the win.
 
In the nightcap, Lombardi shined again, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. He connected on a run scoring single in the third and added a two-run homerun in the sixth. Senior Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) drove in three runs, one with a second inning sacrifice fly and a two-run single in the third. Richards added two RBI in the nightcap, while junior Elias Negron (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored twice.
 
Sophomore Trent Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) started and earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing one run on four hits with eight strikeouts.
 
The Cougars travel to Molloy College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, April 26 at 3:30 pm.
