CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University baseball junior
Chris Coleman (Wayne, N.J.) tossed a complete game in the opener, while sophomore
Noah Putney (Glassboro, N.J.) singled in the winning run in extra innings in the nightcap as the Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against the University of the Sciences. The Cougars took the opener 3-2 and won the nightcap 7-6 in nine innings.

The Cougars improve to 10-20 overall and 5-12 in the CACC, while the Devils drop to 12-23 and 6-9 in conference play.

Caldwell got on the board in the first inning of game one as senior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) singled, while senior
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) drew a walk. Freshman
Santo Anzalone (Middle Village, N.Y.) blasted a three-run homerun for a 3-0 Cougar lead.

USciences got two back in the second to cut the score to 3-2. Coleman settled down after that, retiring 16 of the next 17 batters to give the Cougars a game one win. Coleman improved to 2-5, allowing two runs on three hits and struck out seven.

In the nightcap, the Devils jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first inning. Caldwell answered in their half of the inning with two runs. Freshman
Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) led off with a walk, while freshman
Ryan Opak (Douglaston, N.Y.) followed with a double. Richards singled in both runners for put Caldwell up 2-1.

USciences rallied with three runs in the second to pull ahead 4-2. The Cougars got a run back in their half of the second as freshman
Brandon Scalisi (New City, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly. The Devils tacked on two runs in the third to push ahead 6-3.

Caldwell battled back in the fifth as Lehmann and Lombardi led off with singles and advanced a base on steals. Anzalone came through with a two-out two-run single to cut the score to 6-5. The Cougars took advantage of a Devil error in the sixth to score the tying run and force extra innings.

In the ninth, Richards doubled with one outs. Putney singled to score Richards with the game-winning run in dramatic walk-off fashion.

Senior
Jerry Gamone (Union, N.J.) retired all nine batters he faced in relief, striking out four batters to improve to 3-1. Â

The Cougars host Nyack College for a CACC contest on Tuesday, April 19 at 3 pm at the Kiwanis Oval.
