CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University softball senior
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) blasted a key homerun in a game one win, while graduate
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) connected on two in the nightcap as the Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack College. Caldwell won the opener 5-2 and took the nightcap 15-2 in five innings.

The Cougars improve to 21-6 overall and 9-1 in the CACC, while Warriors drop to 4-19 and 0-10 in conference play.

In the opener, Nyack got on the board with a run in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead. Caldwell rallied in the fifth as senior
Chloe VanGorder (Harveys Lake, Pa.) tied the game with a run scoring single. Cooney blasted a three-run homerun to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead.

Sandoval added a RBI single in the seventh, while Nyack scored one run in their final at-bat.

Freshman
Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) improved to 2-3 on the season as she tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Warriors scored a run in the opening inning for a 1-0 lead. Caldwell got two runs back in the second as freshman
Brooke Martin (Oakland, Maine) scored on a wild pitch, while junior
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run.

The Cougars pulled away with a 10-run third inning. Sandoval belt two two-run homeruns in the inning, while Cooney singled in two runs as part of the game-deciding inning.

Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) tossed two innings, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeouts. Junior
Lindsey Davies (Levittown, N.Y.) earned the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work.
