WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's lacrosse freshman
Madison Ellis (Wayne, N.J.) tallied 10 points, while the Cougars netted a season-high in goals in their 20-16 victory over Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons fall to 2-7 and 1-2 in conference play.
Caldwell jumped out to a 7-1 lead as Ellis netted three goals in the first quarter. Senior
Jenna Steelman (Mays Landing, N.J.) added two goals, while senior
Emily Lasko (Jackson, N.J.) and junior
Phoebe Ohnemuller (Mays Landing, N.J.) scored for the Cougars.
Felician scored three unanswered goals to cut the score to 7-4 early in the second quarter. Junior
Kelsey Maxwell (Center Moriches, N.Y.) scored twice, while Steelman added a goal to push the Cougars ahead 10-5. The Golden Falcons closed the half with four goals cut the score to 10-9 at halftime.
The Golden Falcons pulled even early in the second half but Caldwell responded with four goals. Lasko, Ellis, Maxwell, Ohnemuller found the back of the net to put the Cougars back in front 14-10.
Ellis and Steelman traded goals with Felician as the Cougars held a 16-12 lead heading to the final quarter. The teams matches goals in the final quarter as Ellis added two goals, while Maxwell and Lasko closed out the scoring for the Cougars.
Ellis finished with season-highs with 10 points on seven goals and three assists. Lasko totaled three goals and three assists along with four draw controls, while Maxwell netted four goals and five draw controls. Steelman added four goals in the win.
Senior
Mia Monacelli (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) played all 60 minutes, posting 11 saves in the win.
The Cougars host Thomas Jefferson University for a CACC contest on Saturday, April 2 at noon at Essex Valley Field in West Caldwell.
