SPARKILL, N.Y.- The Caldwell University softball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader to St. Thomas Aquinas College. The Cougars fell in the opener 10-2 in five innings and came up short in the nightcap 5-1.

The Cougars fall to 10-5 overall, while the Spartans improve to 8-11.

In the opener, freshman
Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) and senior
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) both went 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Cougars. Cooney led off the third inning with a single and scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice. Klein reached on a single on the fifth and scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Caldwell took the early lead in the nightcap as freshman
Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.) singled with one out, while Cooney drew a walk. Graduate
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) singled in Tavaska for the lone Cougar run.
