BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- The Caldwell University men's rugby team competed in their inaugural tournament in the Tri-State Conference 7s on Saturday. The Cougars earned the program's first victory as they posted a 1-2 record in the tournament, qualifying for the semifinals.
Caldwell posted the program's first victory with a 20-12 win over Virginia Commonwealth University. The Cougars fell in their second two contests, coming up short 19-12 to William Paterson University and 14-7 to Rutgers University.
Head Coach
Kisset Chirengende on the team's performance, "Overall, I am happy with the team's performance. It was more than we expected in our first competition. Seven of our nine players were playing rugby for the first time in their lives so that show how gutsy and talented this team is."
The Cougars will compete in one more competition on Sunday, April 10 hosted by Hofstra University.
