CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team played a pair of close games but fell twice to regionally ranked University of New Haven in a non-conference twin bill. The Chargers won the opener 4-2 and took the nightcap 5-1.

The Cougars fall to 5-6 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 10-4. Â

In the opener, New Haven got on the board in the first inning as they scored a run on a wild pitch. Caldwell pulled even in the third as senior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

The Chargers pushed ahead with a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Caldwell closed the gap with a run in their half of the fifth but New Haven added a run in the seventh.

Junior
Chris Coleman (Wayne, N.J.) took the loss, tossing six innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

In the nightcap, the Chargers got a solo homerun in the third to take an early lead. Caldwell responded in the fourth as sophomore
Noah Putney (Glassboro, N.J.) led off the inning with a single and scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

New Haven retook the lead and pushed ahead with four runs over the final two innings.
