Dits Nets 19 Points as Women’s Basketball Downs Bloomfield; Secure Fourth Place in North Division to Reach Postseason

BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) netted 19 points to lead the Cougars past Bloomfield College 64-59 in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season finale. The Cougars secured fourth place in the North Division and advance to the CACC Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
 
The Cougars improve to 13-14 overall and 8-9 in the CACC, while the Bears end their season at 5-20 overall and 3-14 in conference play.
 
Caldwell jumped out to a 31-20 lead early in the second quarter. Junior Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.), junior Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland), graduate Shanice Graves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Dits drained three-pointers to help the Cougars build a double-digit lead.
 
Bloomfield rallied back to close the gap to 35-31 with 3:43 left in the first half. Caldwell scored the final eight points of the half to pull ahead 43-31 at halftime.
 
The Cougars ballooned their lead to as much at 14 points at 47-33 early in the third quarter. Bloomfield cut the score to 52-50 at the 9:46 mark of the fourth quarter. Graves answered with a triple as part of an 8-2 rally to extend their lead to 60-52 at the midway point of the fourth quarter. The Cougars outpaced Bloomfield down the stretch.
 
Dits led the way with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Morrison finished with 16 points, three boards and two assists, while Graves added 14 points and seven rebounds. Brown totaled eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while graduate Saundra Cleckley (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
 
The North #4 Cougars travel to the South #1 seed Chestnut Hill College for CACC Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:30 pm.
