CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) dropped in 15 points as the Cougars fell to Chestnut Hill College 72-60 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 12-11 overall and 7-7 in the CACC, while the Griffins improve to 20-4 and 13-1 in conference play.
Caldwell got off to the early as they scored the first four points of the game on their way to building a 16-9 lead after the opening quarter. The Griffins answered with a run to take a 23-19 lead midway through the second quarter.
The Cougars battled back as junior
Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) drained a triple at the 2:59 mark to put Caldwell back in front at 28-27. Chestnut Hill closed the half with a late run to lead 34-30 at halftime.
Chestnut Hill outscored Caldwell 19-11 in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter. The Cougars got as close as 68-60 after two Dits free throws with two minutes left in the game but ultimately came up short.
Dits led the way with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists, while junior
Casey O'Shaughnessy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 14 points, five boards and three assists. Morrison finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Graduate
Shanice Graves (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
totaled six points and seven rebounds, while graduate
Saundra Cleckley (Far Rockaway, N.J.) recorded a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.
The Cougars host Felician University for a CACC contest on Tuesday, February 15 at 5:30 pm.
