Coogan Nets Season-High 15 Points in Women’s Basketball Win Over Molloy

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's basketball freshman Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) scored a season-high 15 points to help the Cougars to their second win in a row in a 60-44 win over Molloy University on day one of the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament hosted on the campus of Dominican University of New York.
 
The Cougars improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Lions fall to 0-3.
 
Trailing by one after the opening quarter, the Cougars started the second quarter with 13 unanswered points to pull ahead 22-10. Senior Casey O'Shaughnessy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and graduate Saundra Cleckley (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) each scored four points in the run, while Coogan drained a triple. Senior Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) scored in the paint midway through the quarter to give the Cougars a 12-point advantage.
 
Molloy closed the gap to 22-17 but the Cougars closed the half strong with an 8-2 run to lead 30-19 at the break.
 
The Lions trimmed the score to 34-25 midway through the third quarter but Caldwell closed the quarter with a 15-3 run to stretch their lead to double figures. Freshman Alisa Blalock (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Brown drained triples in the run, while Coogan add five points including a trifecta. Senior Jessica Wagoner (Clifton Park, N.Y.) capped the run with a bucket with under a minute to play for a 49-28 lead. The Cougars maintained their lead through the final quarter.
 
Coogan led the way with 15 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 2-for-5 from downtown. O'Shaughnessy turned in an all-round effort with 14 points, two boards, five assists and two steals, while Brown finished with eight points and three assists. Blalock added six points and four rebounds, while Cleckley recorded five steals, five rebounds and three assists.
 
The Cougars close out play at the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament as they face Franklin Pierce University at 11 am on Sunday, November 20.
