Reese Sherwood (Salem Ore.) recorded her tenth triple-double of the season as the Cougars comeback fell short in a 3-2 setback to Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest
The Cougars fall to 8-17 overall and 7-10 in the CACC, while the Griffins improve to 14-13 and 10-6 in conference play.
Chestnut Hill won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead. The Griffins held a 17-10 lead in the third set but the Cougars battled back to pull ahead 23-19. Caldwell netted the final two points to win 25-23. The fourth set was back and forth with Chestnut Hill taking a 20-16 lead. The Cougars rallied again, notching six straight points to push ahead 22-20. The teams traded points with Caldwell taking the set 25-22 to force a deciding set.
The Cougars led 6-4 in the fifth set but the Griffins answered with five consecutive points to lead 9-6. Caldwell pulled to within 10-9 but Chestnut Hill pushed ahead to win 15-11 to win the match.
Sherwood led the way with her tenth triple double of the season with 11 kills, 18 assists and 16 digs while freshman
Wyette Schubert-Brown (Chatsworth, N.J.) posted a team-high 12 kills.
Graduate
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) added nine kills, three blocks and six digs, while junior
Amanda Schiltz (Durham, N.C.) tallied seven kills and a season-high eight total blocks (three solo).
Senior
Mary Grace Hartmann (Cutchogue, N.Y.) finished with four kills and four total blocks (one solo), while graduate
Shayna Saltzman (Pine Beach, N.J.) totaled 14 assists and seven digs. Graduate
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) netted a team-high 24 digs, finishing the match with 2,029 career digs.
The Cougars wrap up the regular season as the travel to Felician University in a CACC contest on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 pm.
