CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's volleyball junior
Reese Sherwood (Salem Ore.) recorded her ninth triple double of the season as the Cougars rallied back to outlast Georgian Court University 3-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 8-14 overall and even their conference record at 7-7 in the CACC, while Lions drop to 9-17 and 7-7 in conference play.
Caldwell rallied back in the opening set, trailing 10-6 to lead 14-11 on their way to a 25-20 win. Georgian Court evened the match as they took the second set 25-17. The Cougars opened the third set with a 7-2 lead and the rest of the way to win 25-21. The Lions against answered to even the match with a 25-17 set four victory.
The fifth set was back and forth with Georgian Court pulling out to a 14-11 lead. The Cougars ripped off four points in a row to lead 15-14 following a kill by senior
Alexsandra Mojica (Kearny, N.J.). The Lions answered to push ahead 17-16 but the Cougars rallied back. Caldwell scored the next three points as junior
Amanda Schiltz (Durham, N.C.) registered a kill to tie the set. A Georgian Court attack error put Caldwell back in front 18-17 and Schilltz followed up with 11th kill of the match to seal the deal and lift the Cougars to a thrilling win.
Sherwood led the way with her ninth triple double of the season with 15 kills, 22 assists and 16 digs along with six total blocks, while freshman
Wyette Schubert-Brown (Chatsworth, N.J.) totaled 15 kills and four digs. Schiltz added 11 kills in the win.
Senior
Mary Grace Hartmann (Cutchogue, N.Y.) finished with six kills, three aces, six total blocks and four digs, while Mojica netted six kills.
Graduate
Shayna Saltzman (Pine Beach, N.J.) tallied 21 assists and 10 digs, while sophomore
Karin Ojeda (Toms River, N.J.) added 12 digs. Graduate
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) posted a team-best 26 digs.
The Cougars host Bloomfield College in a CACC contest on Thursday, October 27 at 5 pm.
