ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's volleyball junior
Amanda Schiltz (Durham, N.C.) led the way with a season-high 15 kills as the Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Dominican University of New York 3-2 in a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division contest.
The Cougars improve to 7-14 overall and 6-7 in the CACC, while Chargers drop to 9-13 and 7-6 in conference play.
Dominican won the first two set 25-15 and 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Caldwell jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third, leading all the way to a 25-17 win. The Chargers took a 9-7 lead in the fourth set but the Cougars answered with six straight points to pull ahead 13-9. Dominican got to within a point at 18-17 but Caldwell held on for a 25-22 win to even the match and force a deciding set.
Caldwell trailed for most of the fifth set, facing deficits of 9-5, 10-8 and 13-11. The Cougars flipped the script with three consecutive points to take a 14-13 lead. Dominican even the set at 14 but back-to-back kills by freshman
Wyette Schubert-Brown (Chatsworth, N.J.) gave Caldwell a 16-14 win and a thrilling five-set comeback victory against a division rival.
Schiltz powered the Cougars with a season-high 15 kills along with five total blocks (two solo). Schubert-Brown finished with 11 kills, four aces, two total blocks and six digs.
Graduate
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) totaled nine kills, two blocks and five digs, while senior
Alexsandra Mojica (Kearny, N.J.) added seven kills.
Junior
Reese Sherwood (Salem Ore.) led the team with 26 assists along with six kills, three blocks and 13 assists. Senior
Mary Grace Hartmann (Cutchogue, N.Y.) posted three kills and five blocks, while graduate
Shayna Saltzman (Pine Beach, N.J.) recorded 19 assists, two aces and eight digs. Graduate
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) tallied a match-high 30 digs in the win.
The Cougars host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest on Saturday, October 22 at 11 am.
