ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Casey O'Shaughnessy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a season-high 31 points as the Cougars fell 85-73 to Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the CACC, while the Chargers improve to 8-10 and 3-5 in conference play.
Dominican opened up a 25-13 lead early in the second quarter but Caldwell answered with a 10-4 run. O'Shaughnessy scored six points as part of the rally to cut the score to 29-23 midway through the second quarter. The Chargers closed the half with a run to pull ahead 45-27 at halftime.
The Chargers extended their lead to 52-29 early in the second half but the Cougars battled back with a 22-8 run. Graduate
Shanice Graves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer, totaling nine points in the run, while O'Shaughnessy accounted for the other 13 points to pull the Cougars to within 60-51 early in the fourth quarter.
Dominican pushed ahead 75-62 with 4:06 to play in the game. O'Shaughnessy connected on a three-pointer to spark a 9-2 run to cut the score to 77-71 at the 1:35 mark. The Chargers drained six free throws in the final minute to hold off the Cougars down the stretch.
O'Shaughnessy scored a season-high 31 points with three rebounds and four assists in the game. Graves finished with 19 points, six boards, four assists and two steals. Junior
Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) added six points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while junior
Jessica Wagoner (Clifton Park, N.Y.) totaled nine points and six rebounds.
The Cougars host University of the Sciences for a CACC contest on Saturday, January 29 at 1 pm.
